What is Alpha?

The Alpha course is an opportunity to explore the basics of the Christian faith in a relaxed and friendly environment. It has been established in the UK for over ten years and is now operating in thousands of church groups of all types around the UK and overseas.

Alpha at Yeovil Community Church

Alpha courses have been operating at the GateWay since 2001 and many people have found it very helpful in their journey of faith.

The course consists of a series of video-based talks addressing key issues relating to the Christian faith. The course lasts for ten consecutive weeks with a day away around the middle of the course.

Who is it for?

Alpha is ideal for people who want to investigate Christianity or who have recently come to faith and want to know more. It is the place to raise all of the questions that you haven’t dared to ask before.

Where and when does it run?

There is a course currently operating at the GateWay and if you would like to join us on an Alpha course in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What is the normal format?

The normal format of an Alpha session is as follows:

  • Food together – an opportunity to get to know each other (meal on 1st night only)
  • Video talk – given by Nicky Gumbel, the author of the Alpha course
  • Discussion time – a chance to ask questions and discuss any issues

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for the Alpha course but a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the meal or course materials is appreciated.
