Street Pastors

Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue.  We are volunteers from Christian congregations working as a team to be a caring presence and a listening ear to people who may need it, helping people to stay safe whilst they are out on Friday & Saturday nights.

Yeovil Street Pastors (the church in action on the streets of Yeovil) started patrolling the town centre streets in April 2009 as part of a national team first pioneered by Ascension Trust in 2003, which continues to grow throughout the UK and across the world.  As trained volunteers from local Christian congregations in the Yeovil area, we have a concern for our community and operate in teams to help people (especially younger adults) feel safe at night-time venues and provide caring assistance where necessary.  Our comprehensive training programme is designed to fully equip new Street Pastors to respond to the needs of all the people with whom they engage.

In our distinctive uniforms, Street Pastors are usually walking the streets of Yeovil from 10pm to 4am on Fridays & Saturdays, patrolling from the top end of town down through Middle Street to Wetherspoons and then up around to Club Neo and Chicago Rock in Stars Lane.

Whilst the Street Pastors are patrolling the town centre streets in Yeovil, there are also those back at base called Prayer Pastors, who provide prayer support.  The Street Pastors do not go onto the streets without this sustained prayer.

Though our Christian faith is at the heart of why and what we do, it is not at the forefront of what we say – we offer a practical demonstration of God’s love!

As a Registered Charity (No. 1141102), we are led by a Management Committee and our Co-ordinator Steve Hart (07972 057373).  We work in partnership with local Christian congregations, the police and the local council, referred to as the Urban Trinity.
